What are Color Hue, Saturation and Brightness?Hue should really just be called color. Hue refers to the light frequency on the color spectrum. So as the light frequency changes, the color we perceive goes from red to violet, with all of the other colors we know in between. In a bouquet of red and yellow roses for example, its the hue emitted from the pigment in your yellow roses that differentiates it from the red ones.
Hue/Saturation adjustment with Adobe Photoshop CS5 Saturation refers to the purity of your color. Most sources of color emit many colors hues at the same time, not just one pure color frequency. Mixing in more colors gives the hue a washed-out grayish tone as saturation goes down. If you have ever recycled paint, you may have noticed that when you mixed all of your remaining colors together, you typically get the same grayish color. That's because the initial color has lost its saturation now that other colors are mixed in. A high saturation number is defined as a pure color, while low saturation means all colors are mixed-in, turning all colors into a neutral gray. 
Hue/Saturation adjustment with IconLover 5 Brightness refers to the light intensity of a color, that is the amount of energy emitted by the color source. High brightness is like looking at an object on a sunny day at noon, when the energy emitted by the sun is at its maximum. Low brightness is like looking at the same object at midnight on a cloudy night, when the brightness is essentially at zero.
